It revolves around my character Lain Claes and her experiences in whatever the fuck I come up with at the time. This is the 2.0 version, the first being an older demo I had posted which is probably still in one of my older journals. This demo starts from the beginning and proceeds farther along than the first. A long of the info from then still applies, and a lot of this journal is copied from then because I'm a lazy ass.
This post is both a preview and a chance for all of you to help me debug it. Anyone who finds and reports a real glitch or error will be have their names added to the "Beta Testers" section of the credits and will have the opportunity to make a sprite and have it put into the game (if it's on par quality wise with the in game sprites. Not all sprites may be featured. Sending me a sprite doesn't guarantee I can use it.)
Please keep in mind that the game is NOT RATED and would probably rate around T - M if the ESRB gave two shits and a fuck. Expect foul language and talk of violence and perversion. BY DOWNLOADING IT YOU CONSENT TO BEING SUBJECT TO THE MATURE CONTENT. And also flashing lights and stuff ...Please note that the program I used to make it, RPG Maker VX by Enterbrain, is NOT compatible with Macs. So sorry Mac users. I couldn't find a fix for this anywhere I'm afraid.
It comes in a .zip compressed file that you must open with an extraction tool, like WinZip, ExtractNow, or I think Windows 7 can just open it.

- ✔ Lightning flashes may cause the screen to stay white or black when entering a door. Leave the door and wait outside for lightning to strike again, and it will return to normal.
(Found by FahBraccini.)- ✔ A character in Chapter 4 continues their interactions post-mortem.
(found by just4fun45021.)- ✔ A certain area in Chapter 3 has a pathfinding error where the player (or a sheep) can escape from the map and walk around in the sky. This offers no exploits, but it's definitely a glitch.
(Found separately by Aneruil and burnt-sonic.)- ✔ A corpse in Chapter 3 teleports to a different location upon returning to it.
(Also found by burnt-sonic.)- Sometimes enemies can be harmed by attacks not pointed in there direction. No fix, yet. This is an issue that relates to me using a turn-based engine for real-time combat.
(Reported by burnt-sonic.)- ✔ An enemy in Chapter 4 can slip through a wall and walk around in a non-playable area. The player can potentially pass through as well which could cause death.
(Also found by burnt-sonic.)- ✔ An tree in Chapter 4 has no base. Tileset error.
(Found by FahBraccini.)- ✔ A plaque in Chapter 4 turns into a big ol' sign when you read it.
(Found by FahBraccini.)- ✔ A weapon tells you to press the Z key to attack with it when you pick it up, but the item description says to use the A key. The Z key is correct.
(Found by FahBraccini.)- Being attacked by an enemy in Chapter 4 while leaving "darkness" can cause the "darkness" effect to continue even after leaving. To stop this, go back into the darkness and come back out again. Still working on a fix.
(Reported by burnt-sonic.)- ✔ A wall in Chapter 4 looks like a clipping error, like the player is half-way going through it. Fixed by adding a visible shade effect.
(Found by burnt-sonic.)- ✔ Some water in Chapter 4.5 can be walked on.
(Found by burnt-sonic.)- ✔ In Chapter 4, some dialogue implies the player cannot reach a certain block, but due to an elevation error, they can, so the dialogue doesn't make sense. Players will no longer be able to reach that area.
(Found by burnt-sonic.)- ✔ After moving from one room to another in Chapter 4.5, equipped items (knife, glasses, outfit, etc) may disappear from the player's sprite, but from the game's perspective are still functional and equipped. To fix, re-equip the item(s) in question.
(Reported by burnt-sonic.)- ✔ Some blood-covered walls can be walked on.
(Found by FahBraccini.)- ✔ Some lockers have clipping/depth issues on their top-halves. Some can be walked behind and some can't.
(Found by FahBraccini.)- A character in Chapter 4 moves during a dialogue sequence but moves back to his original position upon exiting the area and returning.
(Found by FahBraccini.)- An enemy near the end of Chapter 4.5 won't harm players who are not moving. This seems to be an aspect of flying enemies.
(Found by burnt-sonic.)- ✔ The intermittent rain at the end of the demo may continue indefinitely after the final scene.
(Found by both burnt-sonic and OokamiOki.)- ✔ Some rocks on water can be walked on.
(Found by FahBraccini.)- ✔ Lain legitimately thinks that a red wheelchair is blue. Fixed, but she's in denial.
(Found by FahBraccini, and is his favorite.)- The third boss can be pushed through parts of the background and we don't know why.
(Found by HalfSoul45.)- The first boss can rarely get stuck in parts of the map, but we haven't been able to replicate this.
(Found by catcat7077)- Several issues in the "Debug World" are present and being worked on as well. Issues include saving (✔), walking on water (mostly ✔), things talking when they can't or shouldn't, and some other clipping issues.
(Found by CamiBasua and burnt-sonic.)- ✔ The top few pixels of Lain's head disappear when she stands directly in front of the TV in the professor's house.
(Found by me in Part 4 of teaunicorn's Let's Play, so she gets the credit.)- ✔ After beating the third boss, Lain can become stuck facing a single direction but can still move around.
(Found by SantaClaw.)- ✔(?) Stabbing the teleport maid can sometimes cause the knife to become "invisible." Lain isn't holding the knife, but everyone you talk to reacts like being stabbed. This is an old glitch we thought was fixed so I'm looking into it further now. UPDATE: It seems that tapping the activate key immediately after putting the knife away can cause it to become invisible instead of being put away. This may relate to the original issue, and has been fixed.
(Found by OokamiOki.)- ✔ Being kicked out of the northern section of the Factory (for dress code) above the pool room entrance causes the dripping sound to continue indefinitely.
(Found by OokamiOki.)- ✔ Some logs outside the factory still think it's snowing, from back in Demo 1. It's not snowing anymore.
(Found by FahBraccini.)- ✔ You can stab a character through the table and book in front of him.
(Found by burnt-sonic.)- ✔ If you attempt to repeat world 4.5, then half of it doesn't work properly and it eventually soft-crashes the game. This has been fixed by making 4.5 inaccessible upon completion.
(Found by myself and burnt-sonic.)Upcoming:
- Anything in the known bugs section with a ✔ before it!
- Complete overhaul of the holy water system. The new one is easier and makes much more sense.
- A way to fight the darkness in World 4.
- A long-term Color Girl reference thanks to
Krooked-Glasses.
- Other random small fixes (typos, sounds, face usage, etc).
- Cheats! It will be a 9-digit password-based system done in secret room with a previously unreleased character.
- New pixel art for most items found on free online resource sites. This is both to make the style more consistent and ensure we have the rights use all art involved.
