Maniacal Artist MtG Set 3

Description

This is the third chunk of my Magic: The Gathering set based off of :iconmaniacalartist:'s artwork. It includes a re-do of my character, Lain, and a silly card (Curb Stomp) that is an alternate art reprint of a card from my unreleased Gears of War MtG set.

Oyashiro's curse is simple and follows the plot of the series it's from. I had fun designing Crona. I'm proud of my interpretation of Crona's madness. Fi was pretty easy as well, though I may do a companion Master Sword someday. Raz is an errata nightmare. His oracle business would rule that a matching proxy may be used in the opponents deck, and Raz's actual card may be set aside.

All artwork here belongs to =ManiacalArtist.
Magic: The Gathering belongs to Wizards of the Coast and Hasbro.

Lain Claes belongs to me.
Rena from Higurashi: When They Cry belongs to 07th Expansion.
Oso and Iver belong to =ManiacalArtist.
Crona from Soul Eater belongs to Atsushi Okubo.
Fi from The Legend of Zelda belong to Nintendo.
Raz from Psychonauts belongs to Double Fine.

Going through these one-by-one again, I guess.

Lain: WAY underpowered. 3 mana 2/2 is already meh, and one that makes SHROUD is painful. Again, I just like Hexproof SO much more, since it gives the user SO many more options.

Curse of Oyashiro: I LOVE THE CONCEPT OF THIS. Surprisingly, it kinda reminds me of the new Rakdos ability of "Unleash", where you get a +1/+1 counter as he enters, provided you're willing to use him as a dedicated attacker only.

Curb Stomp: That's just a functional reprint of another card, right? I could SWEAR I've seen that exact effect and cost before, though, I think it was in white....

Crona, Wielder of Ragnarok: Ack, that's painful to look at. I have no idea how you're supposed to use it. First, you lose 1 life at the start of each of your turns, which is just bad design for a mere 6/4, even IF it could have indestructible, flying and trample. Second, there's no mana cost at all, so I assume you are REQUIRED to play Crona for the madness cost. If so, it's not fun to the user, because even a 6/4 (again, even WITH Indestructible, Flying and Trample) that you are stuck with until you can discard is not fun, ESPECIALLY since you have a Hellbent section on him, which likes you to have no hand. Typically, Hellbent was more about "play everything as fast as you can", not "discard my entire hand, one by one". It was low-mana cards that would swarm out for a kill with low-mana instants and sorceries, not Madness+Hellbent. I love Soul Eater, and I like the general CONCEPT of what you did with Crona. The execution was a bit lacking.

Fi, Sword Spirit: Again, I hate shroud and love Hexproof. Anyway, a card based on equipments that amps up all of your equipped cards.... Decent idea, but pretty underwhelming stats for a 4-mana-drop. Either drop the mana cost to 2 or increase the effect to an additional +2/+2 to all equipped instead of just +1/+1.

Razputin Aquato: THIS CARD IS HILARIOUS. However, I must say one thing about his effect: picking any six cards from their deck and using them all at once is absurdly overpowered. I understand that they have to draw him before you get that, but he's also not in play at the time, and as such, his Legendary rule is avoided. You are capable of placing up to 4 of him into an enemy's deck, and then taking their best 24 cards away from them as they start to draw into them. Ridiculously OP'd as is. Maybe if you added a clause that says, "you can only have one copy of Razputin Aquato in your deck at a time", he'd be more balanced. Also, make sure that they can draw him outside of the regular draw and be fine (basically, make him like a reverse Miracle, where if THEY draw him and he's the first card they drew that turn, you get his effect). Overpowered, but the concept is superb.
